  • BTE – These styles vary in size, according to the required power performance. They are suitable for all types of hearing loss, right up to profound hearing difficulties.
  • CIC – These styles fit completely into the ear canal. They are not suitable for profound loss of hearing or individuals with particularly narrow canals.
  • ITC – This type of style is a little larger than CIC and is easier to handle, with only part of the aid placed into the canal. It is suitable for mild to moderate loss of hearing.
  • ITE – Similar to ITC, just a fraction larger. Also suitable for hearing loss of up to moderately severe levels.
  • RITE – The RITE style combines BTE and CIC qualities and is near invisible, with excellent sound quality.

Technology Categories

There are five categories in total, each of which offers a slightly different range of benefits to the user. This is one of the main factors in determining ultimate expenses.

  • Category 1 – Benefits include speech understanding, comfort in environments that are noisy and minimized feedback.
  • Category 3 – The benefits included here are the same as category 1, plus automatic listening situation adjustment and individual lifestyle personalization.
  • Category 5 – In this category, wireless capabilities for Bluetooth, TV, mobile and land phone signals are added to the benefits contained within categories 1 and 3.
  • Category 7 – Advanced data learning, 360 degree sound localization and impulse noise suppression are the benefits added to all those contained within the first three categories.
  • Category 9 – This is the range with the highest benefits, adding attenuation of non-phone ear during use of phone, natural sound perception, premium experience of live music and premium cinematic experience to the already impressive mix of the first four categories.

The differences in benefits between these categories explain why there is such a difference in prices. Naturally, the more technology is involved, the higher the price will become.

As mentioned, the final cost will be decided by personal requirements and preferences. In order to get exact quotes, a consultation with experts is unavoidable. It is also most advisable to have a look at various suppliers before making a decision, as prices can fluctuate quite significantly from one supplier to the next. Location may also play a role in final expenses.
